1) During a survey from March, 1955, to November, 1956, five Rattus rattus, eleven R. norvegicus and twenty-six Suncus caeruleus were captured in the Shiroyama area, Kagoshima-city. These animals harboured, in total, sixty-two chiggers, referable to Doloisia okabei. There were also examined another seventy-five S. caeruleus and two pigeons (Columba livia domestica) taken in August and November from Yoron Island, North Ryukyu Islands, and a total of ten D. okabei were found upon them. 2) Doloisia okabei was recognized to appear in a season from March to October, showing a peak of prevalence in July. There were statistically significant difference in the chaetotaxy between the Kagoshima specimens and Yoron Island specimens. The measurements of AW, PW, pl, and s showed significant difference (significance level α=0.1%) and SB and dsa showed significant difference (1.0% level). The numbers of total setae, second-row setae and third-row setae also showed significant difference (2.0% level).
