抄録

In the opening and ending sections of Makura no Soshi (The Pillow Book), the narrator appears to be someone who does not serve at Court. This narrator does not seem to match the "author" of the other chapters, court lady Sei Shonagon who serves the Empress Teishi. However, the text and section arrangement of the Sankan-bon Makura no Soshi allow the narrator of these sections to be viewed as Sei Shonagon before and after she served at Court. This is a characteristic unique to the Sankan-bon Makura no Soshi, compared to the Noinbon, Maeda-bon, and Sakai-bon manuscripts.
