In a previous paper, we proposed a novel switched reluctance (SR) motor which has low-priced, easily-obtainable ferrite magnets and auxiliary windings fed by constant current on the stator yoke. Torque of the proposed SR motor was improved by about 20%, and efficiency was also improved by about 4% in comparison with a conventional SR motor. Furthermore, the proposed SR motor can work as a generator without position detection and special current control, while the conventional SR motor requires position detection and ensuing current control. This paper discusses characteristics of the proposed SR motor in generating mode. The validity and availability are proved by both numerical analysis and experiment.
