We investigated the improvement in characteristics of a capacitor motor wedged with soft ferrite materials to conserve the electrical energy consumed by induction motors. However, a method of estimating the loss in a capacitor motor is necessary to obtain an optimum design for a motor with magnetic wedges. Consequently, we propose a reluctance network analytical (RNA) model that we used to estimate the loss in the capacitor motor. The no-load characteristics, load characteristics, and characteristics with the locked rotor were calculated based on the RNA model, and we estimated the equivalent winding resistance of the rotor for the equivalent circuit model of a capacitor motor.
