Calcium-deficient apatite (DAp) was electrolytically deposited on a stainless steel substrate from acidic calcium phosphate solutions containing NaNO3+NaF or KNO3+KF at 80°C, exceptionally 90°C. Different morphologies and orientations of DAp crystals deposited on the substrate were observed depending on electrolytic conditions. DAp crystals deposited under appropriate conditions were elongated to the [001] direction and surrounded by the {100} planes of the apatite structure. DAp crystals had calcium-deficiencies near Ca/P=1.50 and a composition like (Ca>>Na, K) 10-x (HPO4) x (PO4) 6-x (F, H2O) 2.
