Anthraquinone mycotoxins, averufin and versicolorins A, B, from Aspergillus versicolor (Vuillemin) Tiraboschi were found to be potent uncouplers on oxidative phosphorylation of isolated rat liver mitochondria, suggesting their strong cytotoxicities. It was revealed that these anthraquinone mycotoxins were the group of the strongest uncouplers among mycoto-xbs.s so far tested.
