Because contributions of a university to society are difficult to evaluate through traditional means of university evaluations that have unclear objectives and outcomes, this study attempted to evaluate the social contributions of a university using the Project Design Matrix (PDM). This attempt presents an evaluative approach to improve the quality of this evaluation. The study focused on the university-community collaborative program launched by Meiji University, identified the benefits/effects of applying PDM to explain the university’s strategic plans, including its accomplishments and the purpose of its community programs, and indicated the key points in the evaluation of the community collaborative activities of a university.
