Hosho Katsuragawa's Hokusa Bunryaku and Gentaku Ohtsuki's Kankai Ibun were excellent documents in which they succeeded in analysing unknown Russia from drifters' imformation through Rangakusha's (Dutch scholars) eye. Russians influenced isolated Japan from 18th to 19th century and these books were expressions of longing and anxiety for the unknown.
