Abstract
We treated a 53-year-old man with trichilemmal carcinoma in the outer aspect of the left thigh and with a regional lymph node metastasis. Clinically the primary lesion was suspected to be a Bowen’s carcinoma. Histological appearance was similar to follicular Bowen’s disease at the peripheral plaque lesion and represented trichilemmal carcinoma in the central tumor. Histological characteristics of lymph node metastasis were similar to findings in the primary lesion. Up to February 1985, 27 cases of trichilemmal carcinoma were reported in Japan. These cases could be divided into preinvasive phase (16 cases) and invasive phase (11 cases). A review was made of those cases, with respect to clinical and histological characteristics of trichilemmal carcinoma, in both phases.
