Robichon (1974) reported a method of measuring the ratio between the length and width of the femoral neck in Perthes' disease.
On 34 patients with unilateral Perthes' disease which had been treated by abduction plaster cast method, this measurement were made at the intervals of several monthes during the whole course of the disease.
Consequently it was found that the degree of shortening and widening of the neck corresponded to the degree of malfomation of the head, but it was difficult to predict the prognosis of the disease within six monthes from onset.
