Follow-up studies had been undertaken regarding the malignant primary bone tumors encountered at the Kumamoto University Hospital from 1954 through March 1975. There were 43 patients with osteosarcoma and 8 patients with chondrosarcoma who are mainly treated by early surgical amputation. There were also 14 patients with Ewing's sarcoma who were employed radiation therapy. Of the 31 patients with osteosarcoma followed, four (16%) survied more than five years. Ewing's sarcoma revealed the most severe prognosis. All but one of them died within one year. The patients with chondrosarcoma had a better prognosis for life compared with the osteosarcoma.
