We report two cases of chronic compartment syndrome, one involing the anterior and the other the posterior compartment of the lower leg.
Case 1. A thirty-five-year old man was admitted to our hospital in April 1992. His chief complaint was pain in the anterior tibial compartment of his left leg. His leg had been contused 2 months previously and sinse then became tense and swollen following exerase such as walking. An aching pain had also developed in his left leg which was always relieved by rest. Intracompartment pressure after walking was 70mmHg on the left and 55mmHg on the right. Fasciotomy was done and the pain disappeared postoperatively. However 2 month after surgery the pain recurred and fasciotomy was performed again. The patient's postoperative course was univentful until 8 months after the second operation when the pain recurred. Resection of the fascial strip was performed in May 1993 and the patient remains under observation.
Case 2. A seventeen-year old man pain on running and playing football. He was advised to have surgery, but refused surgical treatment and is now under observation.
