In May 2023, I was entrusted with two Burmese manuscripts by a collector, who told me they had been purchased in Yangon in 1990. One of the manuscripts was remarkably well preserved, with most of its leaves still stuck together due to the paint. Since both the title of the text and the date of its copying (1910) are identifiable, I would like to report on the manuscript’s current condition. Key points are as follows:
Size: 50.4×6.3cm. Gilded edges with a middle band of vermillion; 11 lines; small Burmese script. Vermilion wooden covers. There are 213 leaves (fols. ka-v, 1b－do-r, 213a) containing 2 texts. The first part is Sammohavinodanī. Beginning text: ‘namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa // // catusaccadaso nātho // catudhā dhammasaṅgaṇiṃ // pakāsayitvā sambuddho // tasseva samanantaraṃ // // upeto buddhadhammehi // aṭṭhārasahi nāyako // aṭhārasannaṃ khandhādi // vibhaṅgānaṃ vasena yaṃ // vibhaṅgaṃ desayi satthā //’. And second part is Saṃkhepavaṇṇanā-ṭīkā-pāṭh.
