Inhibitory activities by amino acids or their derivatives upon a rice blast fungus, Piricularia oryzae Cavara P2 (C-1) 6019, were studied by observing the colonial growth of the fungus on a medium. The growth of the fungus was inhibited by L-methionine, L-serine, L-arginine at the 1% significance level, while L-aspartic acid stimulated the growth thereof.
Amino acid derivatives such as N-benzoyl-L-methionine, N-benzoyl-L-glutamic acid, N, N'-dibenzoyl-L-lysine, N-benzoyl-L-isoleucine, N-benzoyl-L-valine, N, N'-diphenacetyl-L-cystine, N-phenoxyacetyl-L-leucine, N-2, 4-dichrolophenoxyacetyl-L-leucine were in-hibitory upon the appearance of colonies at a significance level of 1%.
Judging from the above results, some of amino acid derivatives may inhibit the growth of the rice blast fungi.
