Species differences in optical selectivities and stereospecificities of microbial ester hydrolases towards menthyl acetates were studied by fractionation with gel filtration chromatography. Highly specific enzyme (Rh. mucilaginosa) eluted in the early fraction, and the enzyme with lowest specificity (LY-32) eluted in the later fraction.
Hydrolyses of dl-menthyl ester and their steric isomers by commercial lipase preparations were also described.
