This study included 16 ears of congenital ossicular malformations without anomalies of the external meatus or ear drum. The malformation of the incudostapedial joint were recognized in 13 ears. Most of them were characterized by the absence or deformity of the long process of the incus and of the superstructure of the stapes. The fixation of the stapes footplate was recognized in two ears and the remaining one ear was fixation of the malleus and incus in the attic.
It has been reported that stapes anomaly (fixation) may be accompanied by inner ear anomalies. Therefore, we performed small fenestra stapedectomy, which shows less comlication than total stapedectomy, in the cases with stapes footplate fixation.
