Recently the output of the laser is continuously increasing. Today’s maximum output energy is Mega (106) J level. This means after birth of lasers, nearly 7 to 10 orders of magnitude increase occurs. However, the optical element used in such laser system has still the same technology optics. Increment factor is only 10 or 100. This trend results in an increase in size of the large energy lasers. To change this situation, we have developed ultra-high damage threshold optics. Our optical element can diffract a kJ with only 1cm2 optics. Here, we will discuss the downsizing of the laser system using such ultra-high strength optics.
