The anatase type of TiO2 photocatalyst was synthesized by calcination of complex of Ti4+ with nitrogen-containing ligand. The photocatalyst exhibited high photocatalytic activity and high NOx removal efficiency under both of ultraviolet and visible-light illumination. Conventional TiO2 photocatalyst (ST-01 or P25) did not remove NOx under irradiation of visible light (> 495 nm), while the newly synthesized photocatalyst removed 16 % of NOx, which corresponded to the NOx removal of ST-01 under UV light irradiation (>305 nm). The maximum wavelength at which the photocatalyst worked was 645 nm. The simultaneous doping of N and C atoms into anatase lattice, which is expected from UV-VIS spectroscopy, XRD, and XPS, may be a factor for the visible light absorption and NOx removal activity under wide range of visible light irradiation.
