Carbon-metal alloys with desired architecture and macro/microstructure can be used for environmental protection in various ways, especially for chemical industrial effluent treatment, gaseous purification, liquid treatments etc. Carbon-metal alloys of carbon, silver, cobalt etc have been prepared through chemical routes by mixing precursors in appropriate forms or through chemical impregnation of metal salts in solid carbon precursors. On pyrolysis and suitable treatments, these alloys have been prepared with desired porous architecture and chemical activity. These have been characterized by analytical as well as microstructural techniques. These have also been used to treat effluents from chemical industries. Details of results will be presented.
