Mechanical properties of woven fabric Al2O3 fiber-ZrO2 minicomposite-reinforced porous Al2O3 matrix all-oxide composite have been studied. The tensile failure behaviors of the composite with and without source of stress concentration have been studied. The effect of long-term heat exposure on the failure behaviors is also examined. The composite shows no notch sensitivity, which resulted from a fully cumulative fracture process. After long term heat exposure in ambient air (e.g., 1273 K for 1000h, slight degradation of the strength was observed, the composite still had ∼80% of their strength level of the as-fabricated one. This degradation in strength originates from the sintering of ZrO2 phase in minicomposite and the degradation of fiber strength by grain and pore growths. It is concluded that the maximum capable service temperature range of the composite is assumed to be lower than 1273K. The potential of the composite as high temperature structural components were discussed.
