The titanium alloy Ti-15Mo-3Al in metaestable beta phase was studied through the isothermal oxidation (150 h) and cyclic oxidation (15 cycles of 10 h) in oxygen atmosphere, both experiments at 600 and 700 °C. Those specimens were characterized trough XRD and SEM. The alloy didn′t present internal oxidation, it was not possible to detect Molybdenum compounds and presented alpha phase precipitation. The oxide layer formed in isothermal oxidation had protective characteristics, with a compact morphology, continuous and without porosity, and the products formed were TiO2, Al2TiO5, Al2Ti7O15. The aluminum compounds were formed in the external layer. In cyclic oxidation at 600 °C, the alloy formed a very little quantity of oxide and presented TiO2, Al2TiO5, Al2Ti5O7. The oxide thickness in cyclic oxidation at 700°C is thicker than the 600°C and the products formed were TiO2, Al2O3, Al2TiO5, Al2Ti7O15. We conclude that this alloy has an excellent high temperature oxidation resistance.
