Abstract: It is accepted that ceramic restorations exhibit excellent aesthetic characteristics and biocompatibility. However, the mechanical shortcoming of such materials including their inherent brittleness and potential abrade to the opposing dentition limit the fabrication and application of all-ceramic restorations. The major course of ceramic restoration failure in clinic is brittle fracture. Zirconia was used as an additive to strengthen and toughen the ceramics. Composite powder of Zirconia and Alumina was prepared using raw materials of different size and purity by precipitate-wrapping method. Zirconia toughened Alumina ceramic was prepared by hot isostatic pressing technique. By means of Differential Thermal Analyse (DTA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the crystal character and structure of crystallite were investigated. The results show that the performance of Zirconia toughened Alumina ceramic was very good. It was concluded that the material would be more suitable for clinical application.
