A PbTiO3 (PT) particle / organic hybrid was synthesized through polymerization and condensation of metal-organics at 125°C in 2-methoxyethanol. PT precursors were synthesized using lead benzoate derivatives and titanium isopropoxide. The formation of PbTiO3 precursor was confirmed by FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR. The organic ligands were found to coordinate the PT precursors. The electrorheological (ER) properties of suspensions were studied using a rotational viscometer under DC field. The suspension was prepared from the hybrid and silicone oil. The dielectric constant of the suspension was also measured. The generated yield stress increased as the hydrolysis water increased in amount. The ER properties were also dependent upon the kind of organic ligand.
