The purpose of this study is to clarify the state of PVA in the PVA-zeolite complex synthesized hydrothermally from a solution mixture composed of PVA, silica, alumina and alkali oxide. The result obtained from the B-E-T method determining porosity of the complex suggested that the intrinsic zeolite pores were blocked with PVA molecules. The decomposition temperature of PVA in the complex shifted to about 100°C higher temperature side as compared with that of pure PVA, suggesting that an interbonding between PVA and zeolite exists. FT-IR pattern of the complex showed that the band of OH stretching vibration (3471 cm-1) of PVA shifted to lower wavenumber (3394 cm-1). This suggests that OH groups of PVA interact with the surface of zeolite. From these results, it is considered that the end of PVA molecule resides in zeolite pore.
