Iron oxide films were deposited from an aqueous solution site-selectively onto self-assembled monolayer (SAM). Surface functional groups of SAM were modified into an amino/silanol group micropattern by UV irradiation through a photomask. Photo-patterned SAM was catalyzed with palladium in an aqueous solution. Adsorption of palladium was investigated by XPS. Palladium adsorbed on the amino group surface but not on silanol SAM surface. Site-selectively catalyzed SAM was immersed in an aqueous solution containing iron nitrate and dimethylamineborane, and the iron oxide film was deposited onto the amino region where palladium catalyst was present. X-ray diffraction revealed that the deposited film consisted of Fe3O4 and FeOOH.
