Carbonation of Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) that is related to durability is a subject of urgent study. The relation between carbonation and pore structure of gypsum-added AAC was investigated. The amount of water vapor sorption was decreased and the pore size distribution was shifted towards coarser as the increase of the amount of gypsum. It was considered that hemihydrate and anhydrite detected by XRD was deposited on submicro-pore. In addition, the progress of carbonation of AAC was retarded as the increase of the amount of gypsum. Consequently, it was considered that the hindrance of diffusion of water vapor and carbon dioxide the deposition of hemihydrate and anhydrite on submioro-pore resulted in retardation of carbonation.
