A 42-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with melena, abdominal pain and appetite loss. She was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) and a uterine myoma greater than 10 cm in diameter. Abdominal symptoms were experienced after pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) occurred in both legs, the latter causing severe leg pain and difficulty walking. Sigmoidoscopy revealed active inflammation with severe redness and several deep, longitudinal ulcers.
We diagnosed active UC complicated by PG and treated her with tacrolimus. Her abdominal symptoms and severe leg pain eventually improved. This case report suggests that tacrolimus treatment for UC complicated by PG is effective.
