A 64-year-old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of bloody stool. Barium enema X-ray and colonoscopic examination revealed a submucosal tumor in the ascending colon. Histological finding of biopsy specimen showed neoplastic growth of fibrotic tissue, there is no evidence of epithelial tumor. The tumor was histologically diagnosed as neurogenic tumor and the patient underwent an operation of the right half colon resection. The tumor was 35x30x25mm in size, with erosive surface. Histology with HE staining, the tumor had no capsule and consisted of fusiform cell. Using immunohistochemical study, the tumor cells were to be positively stained by S-100 protein but negatively stained by desmin.
So the diagnosis of neurofibroma was made. Neurofibroma of the colon in Japan were made a report of 7 inclusive of our case.
