A 51-year-old female was pointed out to have a submucosal tumor in the gastric fornix. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed slightly heterogeneous mass in the proper muscle layer, 2.6cm in size.
Follow up study after four months showed that the tumor size enlarged and that the internal echo pattern changed into more heterogeneous one with low echoic area. Partial gastrectomy was performed and the lesion was diagnosed as gastric stromal tumor with low grade malignancy by histopathological and immunohistochemical examination.
Repetitive examination with endosonography is suggested to be useful for the diagnosis of gastric submucosal tumor.
