A 6-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital due to edema in the eye lid and both extrimities after a common cold. Laboratory data revealed low serum protein and albumin, 3.1g/dl and 1.9g/dl respectively, despite of the proteinuria.
Ultrasound sonography revealed the gastric wall thckening. The Tc-99m-HSA-D scintigraphy brought the protein execrined to the stomach. Endoscopic examination showed a lot of erosions surrounded by the edematous mucosa in the whole stomach, while the normal appearance in both the esophagus and the duodenum. Biopsy specimen showed hyperplastic change with rich mucus in the gastric epithelial cells. The edema was disappeared by the albumin administration intravenously.
Endoscopic examination was performed to make sure the lesions had been improved dramatically. The serum CMV-IgM was found to be raised temporary. This case was diagnosed as the Ménétrier disease due to the Cytomegalovirus based on the protein-losing gastroenteropathy and the change of CMV-IgM antibody in the course.
