Kawatabi grassland (about 400 ha) at an altitude of 500 m is located at 38°44′N and 140°4′E near Sendai. The author has studied the soils and plants in this grassland since 1954. The present paper deals with the process of soil formation and soil-plant relationships in the area. In "Report of the Institute for Agricultural Research, Tohoku University" were already published two papers in English entitled "Soil of Kawatabi IBP-Area" and "Soil-plant Relationships in Kawatabi Grassland," whose contents are almost the same as those of the present paper.
