We investigated the relationship between self-consciousness and emotional susceptibility in relation to excessive other-oriented behavior and over-adaptation. We conducted a questionnaire survey with college students and analyzed a path model from self-consciousness traits and emotional susceptibility to over-adaptation using structural equation modeling. The results indicated that individuals with higher levels of public self-consciousness tended to exhibit greater emotional susceptibility and were more prone to over-adaptation. However, the direct effect of emotional susceptibility on over-adaptation was not significant. It is suggested that over-adaptation is associated not with emotional susceptibility but with a heightened level of public self-consciousness.
