Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the interactive effects of psychological entitlement and self-control on risk-taking behavior. Four hundred Japanese adults with a mean age of 46.11 completed the Japanese Version of the Psychological Entitlement Scales (JaPES), Risk Propensity Questionnaire (RPQ), and Japanese-translated version of the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the interaction between one factor of risk-taking behavior, risk-taking with individual values, and self-control was significant. A simple slope test indicated that the association between psychological entitlement and risk-taking with individual values tended to be greater when self-control was low.
