Photoinitiation system composed of squarylium dye and iodonium salt were studied in this work. Such system possesses good thermostability and high photochemical driving force. Upon irradiation, an electron transfer reaction between excited dye and iodonium leads to photobleaching of squarylium dye and generation of active radical. The results obtained indicated that squarylium dye and iodonium salt systems were suitable to initiate visible photpolymerization and photocrosslinking of acrylates effectively.
