The purpose of this study is to make clear that it is necessary to include the description of the environmental load reduction for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of a railway construction project. Examples of EIA of similar railway projects and relevant environmental considerations were researched as case studies. In conclusion, (1) It was verified that the usual environmental impact statement (EIS) did not have the significant findings for the environmental load reduction by the result of the case study;(2) The environmental consideration was chosen in order to promote the construction of the environmentally sustainable transport as the result of the case study;(3) It was verified to need description of the EIS for the environmental load reduction based on the above result. The result of the study will contribute to improving effectiveness of the EIA.
