Recently, satellite iamges are often used to get various information about coastal regions. Especially, they are expected to detect the location of the shoreline in the area where there is no field data.
In this study, we utilized ASTER ARO Research System of ERSDAC to get the satellite ASTER image of Uradome coast in the time when we carried out field survey of the shoreline location by GPS. To detect the location of the shoreline by the ASTER image, we used the newly proposed value (AS4-1) alculated from BAND1 and BAND4 images. We compared the shoreline by the ASTER image to the shoreline by field survey and estimated the difference. The resuls show that most of the difference is less than the pixel size (about 34m) and more than 90% of the differences between these shorelines are less than 17m which is half of the pixl size.
