Abstract
Recently according to an increase of digital optical device such as DSC and DVD, the needs of aspheric lens increase rapidly. Glassy carbon is expected for a new material of dies of glass lens molding process. This paper describes an electro-chemical machining method for glassy carbon. We notice that glassy carbon has machined to impress voltage between tool electrode and work pieces in the deionized water as working fluid. In this study, the basic machining characteristic of this method was investigated. Experiments show that evaluation of machining condition results in a fine surface roughness, 18nmRt.
