Generally the strength of a built-up girder, such as a plate girder, is calculated with out considering the effect of slip in its longitudinal riveted or welded joints. It has become necessary, however, that this slip should be taken into consideration in the calculation in particular cases, and the author has derived a general method of calculating the strength of a biult-up girder considering the slip in its longitudinal joints and confirmed the results by experiments.
