The Society of Chubu Medical Quality Management (CMQM) was founded in April 2005 as a subsidiary organization of The Japanese Society for Quality Control (JSQC), Chubu Chapter. The purpose of CMQM is to learn and practice theories for improving the quality of medical care. Its members consist of: medical professions such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, hospital office employees; university/college officials specialized in the quality control; and persons experienced in the quality control in business companies, with 11 hospitals and three medical universities in Gifu and Aichi Prefectures participating.
Holding its regular meetings four or five times a year and also a symposium in December every year, CMQM has repeated lectures inviting prominent hospital operators and TQM practitioners both in Japan and overseas as well as reporting/study meetings to discuss examples of TQM practiced at each hospital. In addition, in 2010, some CMQM members made inspection of hospitals practicing lean management and also visited the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in the Unites States. To date, CMQM has shared plenty of information and examples of practices among its members, and is now putting TQM, which has been developed mainly in the manufacturing industry, to practical use in medical care, thereby making efforts to better and improve the quality of medical care at member hospitals.
