Background γ-ray spectra and 54Mn spectra were measured with a Ge detector in a low-background shielding using various inner linings; Lucite, Al, Fe, Cu and Pb. The experimental results show that the background counting rate in the energy region 0-500 keV and backscattered γ ray increase in a shielding with low Z linings, It can be qualitatively understood through a simple calculation considering the γ-ray absorption and scattering processes in the shielding material.
