The sense of smell is the sensation of smelling something when odorous substances floating in the air stimulate the olfactory cells at the back of the nose and the signal is transmitted to the olfactory center in the brain. Olfactory dysfunction refers to a condition in which an abnormality occurs in the sense of smell (olfaction) and the person is unable to detect odors correctly. When an olfactory disorder occurs, it becomes difficult to smell, smells differently than normal, and the taste of food can be lost, significantly affecting the quality of life. It can also pose a danger to daily life, such as not noticing food spoilage or gas leaks. Although olfactory disorders often occur in association with chronic sinusitis, they can also be caused by a variety of factors, including cold virus infections, including COVID-19, head trauma, stress, and aging. In this study, subjects who had complained of anosmia since contracting COVID-19 underwent aromatherapy treatment approximately once every seven days for eight courses, and the results were recorded using the KK scale to observe and analyze changes in QOL from a holistic perspective.
