Abstract

Withdrawals of department stores have been common nationwide in Japan. The cities where their department stores were closed down are deprived of their centrality. It causes inconvenience to the consumers who go out to shopping using public transportation. Based on the background, this paper aims at research on re-utilization after the withdrawals. Firstly, this paper surveyed the nationwide situation after the withdrawals of department stores in recent years and showed that the situation of the re-utilization differs according to the scale of the cities and the floor areas. Secondly, this paper focused on the cases with floor areas from 10,001 to 20,000 squared meters and showed that the situation of the re-utilization correlates with land prices.
