Abstract

This article shows the Transition activities in the community of Ungersheim in France. Ungersheim is known for several types of commitments with regard to sustainable development, including climate change, fair trade, local currency, renewable energy, and biomass boiler. The community has its own local development plan composed of three pillars, namely intellectual autonomy, energy independence, and food sovereignty. This article focuses on their 21 action plans and analyzes the importance of the mayor’s initiative and participatory democracy for realizing transition community.
