Abstract

Nowadays, one solution to develop compact cities is to promote the city center residence. In this study, we visualized the future image of the city center of Utsunomiya (Japan) using 3DVR. This visualization tool provides effective information in order to promote the designated area. Then, using the results of the visualization, we conducted a survey in order to understand the intention to live in the city center of the citizens. The results showed that the desire to live in the city center increased, and especially the appreciation of the value of living in areas along the LRT line, and in areas where urban functions are concentrated increased. The provision of information was found to be particularly effective among the younger generation.
