A Study on Local Image of Morioka City
Using Lynch's Model of Mental Mapping and Text Analysis

The word “image of Morioka-city” is often used in city center devitalization basic plan of Morioka City "Tsunagaru Machi-dukuri Plan", however the image of Morioka-city is not necessarily clear. In this study, the local image of Morioka city was clarified by Lynch's Model of Mental Mapping targeting Morioka citizens and text analysis of Morioka town magazines that have been published for over 50 years. As a result of the analysis, some keywords such as "River", "Historical Heritage", "Festival" and "People" emerged as the local image of Morioka City. Specific action plan that preserve and utilize such local images to revitalize the city center will be desired.
