Study on the Conversion of Former Military Land and Buildings by National Universities in Chugoku Region

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the usage of former military land and buildings by national universities in Chugoku region. In Tottori prefecture, Tottori Prefecture Agricultural College used former army training fields as an experimental forest and a laboratory, and School of Education, Tottori University moved to former barracks in the suburbs. In Okayama prefecture, the 6th High School and Okayama Agricultural College moved to the former barracks and the former Ordnance Supply Depot. in the suburbs. That place became the main campus of Okayama University later. In Hiroshima prefecture, Hiroshima Bunri University, Hiroshima High School and Hiroshima Technical College temporarily used former military educational facilities before returning to their original campuses. Hiroshima Higher Normal School, Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School and Hiroshima Youth Normal School moved to former barracks and a former clothing depot. Hiroshima Prefectural Medical College used former barracks and former naval hospitals, and because relocating to Hiroshima city was a condition for the transition to the new system, it moved to the former Ordnance Supply Depot.
