The authors had conducted field surveys in Chi-Chi Township since the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake to understand the post-disaster recovery process. This paper presents recovery curves for buildings in the area after the Earthquake. The recovery curves in terms of building type (temporary housings, public facilities, rebuilt buildings, and new buildings) were constructed using the building certification data of Nanto County. It was also clarified the differences of recovery process among them. The proposed methodology to construct recovery curves in damaged area will be essential for research into post-disaster recovery because it enables comparative studies related urban planning among different types of post-disaster recovery processes throughout the world.
