Objective: To examine the factors influencing the feasibility of home discharge for intensive care patients.
Methods: The study population consisted of 216 patients who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 48 hours or more and underwent subsequent rehabilitation. Patients were classified into two groups—a home discharge group (n=106) and a transfer group (n=110)—and univariate and logistic regression analyses were performed with home discharge feasibility as the dependent variable. Additionally, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to determine clinically valid cutoff points.
Results: Logistic regression analysis identified length of hospital stay and Functional Status Score for the ICU (FSS-ICU) at ICU discharge as independent factors influencing home discharge. The ROC analysis-based cutoff value for the FSS-ICU was 20 points.
Conclusion: Acquiring basic motor skills and mobility capabilities by the time of ICU discharge may influence the likelihood of home discharge.
