This paper presents a method of evaluating seismic performance of river structures in near the estuary zone, using a simplified method for estimating distribution of tsunami height within a river, in which tsunami run-up is predicted at occurrence of an earthquake in under the sea bottom. In the proposed method, an estimating equation is used to easily obtain approximate values for maximum tsunami height and run-up distance from the coastline.
The proposed equation is formulated extracting items sensitive to the approximate values above, by conducting sensitivity analysis applying one-dimensional numerical analysis combining dimensional data of tsunami at estuary and river conditions of areas where tsunami run-up is expected to reach. Criteria such as wave breaking conditions are defined based on experimental results of laboratory studies from published literatures.
