Various studies on revetments have been carried out. Most of them, however, focused on the relationship between strength of revetment and hydraulic force. In this study, the influence of river channel characteristics on the disaster pattern of revetments was investigated through observations, analysis of disaster data in the Tama River and the mechanism was clarified through numerical analysis and hydraulic model test.

Through this study, following three points were clarified. Damaged part of revetments depends on the distance from the weir that affects the riverbed degradation. Damaged revetments are often found at the area of about 1~3km downstream from the changing point of riverbed slope. The sinuosity and the proportion of low-water channel to the river width determines which bank side is damaged, but alignment of the channel in wider area is also important.
